The View from a One-Time Royal Capital

In the streets and markets of Luang Prabang

By Allison Heiliczer

The Buddha was said to have prophesied that the central Laotian city of Luang Prabang would become a rich and powerful capital. It came true: for more than 600 years, this mountainous place would be home to a royal court. Hong Kong-based photographer Allison Heiliczer captures some daily moments there.
